MSPA Members Make Rounds on Capitol Hill
The company members of the Mystery Shopping Providers Association (“MSPA”) continue to rely on a business model predicated on the preservation of independent contractor status. Today, MSPA members flew to Washington, D.C. to lobby the legislators from their states. The participants, representing mystery shopping companies from all across the country, sat down with staff members from both chambers of Congress and advocated in favor of (i) preserving an individual’s right to work as a self-employed service provider, and (ii) retaining the prospective protection under Section 530 of the Revenue Act of 1978 that is accorded qualifying companies that do business with independent contractors. The MSPA is a global trade association, founded in 1998, dedicated to advancing the acceptance of mystery shopping as a means of improving business operations, enhancing the customer experience, and aligning the performance of a business with its brand promise. Mystery shopping is used today in virtually all business sectors as a means of capturing and measuring the actual customer experience at retail locations.
